Start With Why
Before we explain how to calculate anything, we explain why it matters. You'll understand the reasoning behind investment strategies, not just memorize formulas.
Started in 2019 when someone finally got tired of watching people make investment decisions based on gut feelings and half-remembered advice from their uncle. Turns out, there's a better way.
Founder & Principal Educator
Back in 2019, I was sitting in a coffee shop watching someone across from me frantically Google "should I buy gold right now" while the market was doing something mildly interesting. That person was making a decision worth thousands of dollars based on the first three search results.
I'd spent eight years working with retail investors in Melbourne, and this scene happened more often than you'd think. People weren't stupid. They just never learned the fundamentals. Schools don't teach this stuff, and most financial advice is either too expensive or sounds like it was written by a committee of lawyers.
So Jolexmyth started as weekend workshops in Wetherill Park. Just basic investment principles — how to read a balance sheet, what compound interest actually means, why diversification isn't just owning five tech stocks. The first group was eleven people. By mid-2020, we'd moved online (thanks, pandemic) and realized we could reach folks across Australia who needed this information but couldn't access it.
Now we work with people who want to understand their money without getting a finance degree. We're not promising anyone they'll retire at 35 or beat the market. We're just teaching the fundamentals that should've been taught in Year 10 but somehow never were.
These aren't corporate values someone made up in a meeting. They're the principles that guide how we teach and who we work with.
We won't tell you about guaranteed returns or secret strategies. Markets are unpredictable. Anyone who says otherwise is selling something you don't need.
Every case study we use comes from actual market situations. We explain what happened, why it happened, and what you can learn from it — without the textbook jargon.
Our job is to explain concepts clearly enough that you can make your own decisions. We're educators first. If someone tries to upsell you during a lesson, that's not us.
We didn't start with all the answers. We learned by teaching, listening to feedback, and adjusting when something didn't work.
Eleven people showed up to learn investment basics in a community centre. We covered portfolio allocation using actual market data from 2018. Half the room took notes on paper. It was beautifully analog.
Lockdowns forced us to figure out virtual teaching. Turns out you can explain compound interest over Zoom just fine. We reached 150 students that year across NSW and Victoria.
Built out specialized modules on superannuation strategies, dividend investing, and reading financial statements. Students could finally learn at their own pace instead of cramming everything into weekend sessions.
We've taught over 2,400 people the fundamentals of investing. Our autumn 2025 program focuses on practical portfolio management and understanding market cycles using real-world Australian examples.
Financial education doesn't need to be boring or complicated. We break down concepts using real market examples and practical scenarios you'll actually encounter.
Before we explain how to calculate anything, we explain why it matters. You'll understand the reasoning behind investment strategies, not just memorize formulas.
Every example comes from real companies, real market movements, and real financial statements. We analyze what happened during the 2022 corrections and the 2020 volatility — not hypothetical scenarios.
Theory is useless without application. You'll work through exercises using your actual financial situation — income, expenses, goals — so you leave with a plan that fits your life.
If you're confused about something, chances are five other people in the room are too. We encourage questions and spend time making sure everyone understands before moving forward.
Our next fundamentals course starts in September 2025. Learn the principles that should've been taught in school but somehow never were.
